Balconies were carefully added to this multi-storey tenement block dating from the late 19th century in a way that respected the original.

A bespoke, pre-fabricated concrete structure was chosen.

Its surface was given a unique acidified concrete finish and as a result the overall appearance very much corresponds with the building's red sandstone features.

Any superfluous frills were avoided in order to underscore the robust, defining character of the balconies.

This impression is borne out by the slender stainless steel railings, which finish flush with the ground.
